I shared this recommendation with many of my friends in school and university chats about our experience with TrekkingClub, with whom we went to the mountains over two nights as a family with our 5.75 year-old son and 12.75 year-old daughter.

Alexei Raspopov spoke with me on the phone for an hour and very calmly and convinced me via good arguments that an overnight trip with tents to the upper Kolsai Lake for 3 days is possible, but not with children. He suggested a hike in the Turgen Gorge and everyone really liked it.

Asya Burambaeva was responsible for the preparation - what to take with us (and what not to take) and general organizational issues (transportation to their base in the national park and back home).

Viktor Vasiliev was our main guide along with his friend Denis. It was he who also took the backpack of my son, who could not carry 11% of his weight uphill in his backpack for the first time and burst into tears, and we, loaded at 16-17% of our weight for the first time, were unable to help. Viktor was already carrying 30-35 kg and he didn't have to carry our son's backpack (in such cases we would have had repack it between us) and was an encyclopedia about herbs, animals and the weather around us. It is impossible to imagine a better guide - everyone really liked it, largely thanks to him.

We had magical 3 days with Maria and the Trekking club team. Right from being picked up from our hotel at Almaty, to an unexpected picnic near the river side (with an incredible spread for lunch served in the cleanest manner), the lakes, visit to Assy plateau, Bear waterfall & Kairak waterfall hike: everything was really planned & organized. Tents at the campsite are super clean & food (including vegetarian) were excellent. THANK YOU Maria!!! Special thanks to Anastasia, chef, little Elza, Zayed for great hospitality.

This is only beginning of our 2^nd day, but already the trip has been fantastic! The scenery, of course, is amazing, but it’s the staff that really makes the trip! The guides have a broad depth of knowledge of history, geology, archeology.

The camp staff are great, too – so friendly and good-humored and helpful! They are great with children, too. Our children really had a wonderful time. Food is tasty and nourishing – and always enough – even more than needed.

Fantastic + unique in easy way. Even the dog is super friendly. Keep up the good work!

What a fabulous 3 days at an idyllic campsite! Thank you for the staff for being great hosts and provided me food that it was possible for 10 people to eat. I may well have broken the bed if I’d stayed any longer :)

Thank you Maria for being a great driver, especially up on the plateau, and for being a knowledgeable guide. I loved seeing her daughter Victoria, enjoyed the nature too, especially the marmots spotting :)

Hi Asya,

I hope you and the team are well and the season is underway!

We wanted to say thank you for an amazing trip and the introduction to Kazakhstan’s nature. Every part of the trip was brilliant, thank you for your suggestions and arrangements. Camping with Den was tough as people who don’t hike regularly but worth every minute and he kept us going at a good pace and across fields and meadows to the most scenic camping spots. His cooking was great and we were never without food or tea! He had good tips and made sure we were comfortable and safe. 

Anastasia was the perfect hostess at your camp in the national park. She made sure we had everything we needed and again, the food was great and plentiful. The hot shower was very well received and the tent was clean and comfortable. She also removed a tick for me with much precision for which I was very grateful!

Maria showed us a great time around the lakes and Charyn canyon, she had a great sense of humour and was a good guide pointing out things along the way and telling us stories - she also took excellent photos ;) She made sure we had everything we needed and went out of her way to help us when we needed it. She is the best off road driver we’ve met!

The scenery, nature and hospitality we’ve experienced has far surpassed our expectations. We would recommend these itineraries, and Kazakhstan, to everyone who wants to experience vast landscapes and incredible nature. 

Thanks to you and the whole team and we wish you a great summer season.

We have got so many pictures of the trip if you would like us to send any. For now I’ve attached one of us with Maria - we have one with Den too but on our GoPro - and one of the glacier lake as it was so beautiful.

First of all, Asha, it was so lovely to see you in person and have dinner together. You are as nice and friendly as I expected from your emails!

Norm ("Andrew") and I would like to thank you and all staff for another fabulous trip. And, of course, a very special thank you to Maria, who was the perfect guide and hostess--she really looked after us (and after Norm's boots as well--see photo)! Unfortunately this was our last opportunity as we will be leaving Kazakhstan in June; in July we move to Hanoi, Vietnam, for the next few years. But we will keep promoting your company to others here. In fact, on the flight back to Atyrau we already gave someone your details, so you might get some more customers from Atyrau.

 I have attached a few photos as "evidence".

1. and 2. After a pretty tough hike up to the second Kolsay lake, we enjoyed a fabulous lunch prepared by Maria

3. Maria even applied "first aid" to Norm's boots, which were falling apart on the way back . . .

We did a three day hike with these guys, and my partner and I would recommend it because:

1- It was well organised, we were picked up in Almaty, were driven to the Nature reserve, where we were given the borrowed equipment (Tents and Sleeping bags) as well as the food rations. We hiked and camped three day and two nights, after this we were driven back to Almaty.

2- Our guide was knowledgable, explaining many geological features and in good English or Russian.

3- The company was flexible; our hike was tailored to our time constraints.

4- The hike we did was through stunning scenery.

I'm just writing to thank you for putting me in touch with Robin and Katarina, which allowed me to join the trekking tour. It was a real challenge at times, but I really enjoyed the experience. It was great to be able to do something different on each day.
I'd also like to mention that Konstantin was a real pleasure to travel with. He was extremely friendly and warm, but at the same time very professional - we all felt totally safe with him. And enjoyed his company!

We never planned or expected to visit Kazakhstan, but I had a conference in Astana and we decided to make the most of it. Thanks to Trekking Club, we are bonafide head over heels in love with this amazing country and will definitely be back again. We spent three comfy nights here and have never slept so well! The sound of rushing river and the “nice-to-meet-you” birdsongs will lull you to happy vivid dreams. Both of our daytime adventures were fantastic. I took too many photos of the Assy Plateau, and the waterfall hike was great. Thank you to Ainura for her amazing camp cooking. This is a culinary destination in the outback. And huge kudos to Maria (Marya?) for her expert guiding (and offroad/muddy driving)! She helped us to better understand this fabulous corner of the planet.

We had a fantastic 2 day hiking trip to Shymbulak and Touyuk-Su with Dimitri. The scenery and views were beautiful. Dimitri was very knowledgable, with some great stories of his experiences and he looked after us very well and safely, including during stormy weather. We’d really recommend Trekking Club and would happily go on another trip.

Хотел бы поблагодарить вас за возможность отдохнуть в кемпинге. Мы провели одни из самых замечательных дней за всё время отдыха! Отдельно хотелось бы выразить признательность администрации, которая нас встретила и расположила. Нам не только пошли на встречу насчёт питания, но и помогли уехать оттуда прям до Алматы. Мы в восторге! Обязательно и однозначно буду рекомендовать вас друзьям и родственникам. Надеюсь мы ещё не раз будем гостить в лагере. Жаль, что в суматохе во врем сборов мы не успели попрощаться... Передайте пожалуйста ребятам, которые нас встретили большое спасибо и нашу признательность за такую радушную и даже домашнюю встречу! Спасибо!!!

Отдельно, здесь же, привожу слова от моей невесты.
Хочется выразить благодарность Tracking club! Лагерь оказался удивительным местом! Всё продуманно и хорошо организованно. Малого того что он находится в красивом месте, рядом с горной рекой. Так ещё и отсутствует мобильная связь(хотя это не всем нравится), что способствует полному расслаблению!) Можно почитать книгу, лёжа в гамаке, вдыхая свежий воздух. Можно прогуляться до невероятно красивого водопада. Дорога длинною в 8 км (в одну сторону), с крутыми подъемами и спусками, не так заметна, благодаря живописным пейзажам.)) А если ещё попасть под горный холодный дождь, как мы, то, прийдя в лагерь, можно попариться в скифской бане. Ну не чудо ли?)

Люди, которые работают в лагере, приветливы, внимательны и заботливы. Особенно хочется выделить повара Айнур, с её вкусной и сытной кухней) Очень обрадовало то, что учитывают пожелания жителей лагеря, в моем случае готовили вегетарианскую еду. В общем, два дня в tracking club, произвели на меня большое впечатление! Спасибо организаторам!

казался удивительным местом! Всё продуманно и хорошо организованно. Малого того что он находится в красивом месте, рядом с горной рекой. Think we closed the season with a fantastic hospitality and food preparation by Ainour and Ziyat. Turgen mountains have the power of silence while the river (heard) in a 24/7, without much of an audience. Being from Holland (overcrowded) we found here the energy for (taking winter) fun, silence and nature.
Kazakhstan has it all.

Highly recommend a weekend/day trip with Trekking Club! Our weekend trek was perfectly coordinated, all questions answered and logistics arranged well in advance. Our guide Dennis was fantastic! A true expert of the region and trails. My husband and I really enjoyed Dennis' company, felt safe at all time and were well equipped with gear kindly borrowed to us from Dennis/the club. We will be trekking with you guys again!

Вернувшись с очередной прогулки в горы, получив заряд энергии и свежего воздуха, вспомнил, какой же я "редиска", что до сих пор не поблагодарил TrekkingClub за шикарный трек, в июле 2015, по Тургеньскому ущелью через ледник горного института и французский перевал.
Ведь именно с их подачи я открыл для себя всю красоту наших гор и теперь при первой возможности стараюсь выбраться куда-нить повыше ))).

P.S.Отдельная благодарность гидам Денису Шербина, Виктору Васильеву и Ольге Васильчук.

We had a great experience here at Turgen Camp and I must say the staff & facilities, team here at Trekking Club KZ have superseded expectations!!

We tried at 2 routes over 2 day hikes:

1) Kairak waterfall – relatively easy (8km, 5-6 hours to/return). Good views along the way and an excellent picnic site just before you ascend to the waterfall.

2) Assy Observatory – fairly challenging (16km, 9-12 hours to/return). Set off early so you can catch the plateau views before the clouds settle in. Along the way the herds of sheep, cows, horses were an eye –opener as they walk freely along the plateau grazing under the watch eye of shepherds and farmers.
You won’t be able to enter the observatory because it is fenced up. But there is a basic shelter, which is good enough for a short lunch break or even a quick hot meal.
The walk back can be tough it will be an enjoyable one.

Another huge thank to the team who has made my adventure here in KZ a one to remember for a lifetime.

Awesome hospitality, even though they couldn’t speak English (and we couldn’t speak Russian), they tried their best to communicate and made sure we were comfortable.

We did 2 hikes: waterfall & plateau, which was amazing experience. Our host made sure we had good warm dinner and set up campfire during cold nights. I had a good and fun 3 nights in the camp. Cool people and fantastic experience. Thanks!!

What an adventure!

We stayed two nights in this very nice and quite camp in the middle of nowhere. The food, especially the dinner, was very delicious. The staff did their best to help us even we haven’t spoken Russian at all.

We recommend to visit the waterfall (Kairak, 2 hours walk one way) and the observatory (4 hours by bike one way), which you can do on your own. You can’t get lost. Just follow the road.

Ходили с друзьями осенью 2015 года в пятидневку по Тургеню и через ледник Горного института. Прекрасный маршрут, отличный инструктор, веселый поход! =))) Мы получили ни с чем не сравнимый опыт и массу впечатлений, прошли через все климатические зоны и видели места неописуемой красоты!

Кемпинг компании "Trekking Club" в Тургеньском ущелье - отличное место для отдыха и прекрасная стартовая точка для горных походов по Тургеню и за его пределы. Место очень удобно также и для проведения выездных мероприятий, совмещающих полезное с приятным (к примеру, мы проводили форум экотуристских организаций Центральной Азии). Сотрудники компании весьма универсальны в своих навыках и имеют большой опыт организации экспедиций самого различного плана как на казахстанском Тянь-Шане, так и в горах за пределами Казахстана, включая, к примеру, Непал.

I wanted let you know my thoughts too. I agree 100% with what Jamie said. The trip was very well organized, smooth, and definitely what we were looking for – adventure! We didn’t see any people for five days on our trek which brought to life how untouched and unexplored Kazakhstan really is. Den was incredible and a fantastic guide.

The trek was difficult at times, but overall, it wasn’t impossible. Day 4 with the glacier and rock wall climb was a great workout and probably the hardest (but most rewarding) part. Jamie and I are quite fit, so we did not expect to have any difficulties.

I’d take a trip like this again. Thanks for organizing. I’m happy for you to use this testimonial on your website.

Where to start! I found the whole expedition very mind blowing and the scenery was purely breath taking! Our guide, Den, was extremely helpful and couldn’t have been any more accommodating if he tried. The weather was fantastic and the trek took us through a variety of terrain, from Forrest to Ice to Snow and almost dry / desert like conditions.
We wanted something different from our holiday and we definitely got it! It’s something I’ll always be glad I’ve done and would love to visit again!

Our guide drove us to the Trekking Club base camp at Turgen Valley. If there were star ratings for camps like hotels, I would rate the Turgen base camp a 5 star luxurious camp :). Everything was provided there including sleeping bags, 3 meals a day with sufficient facilities such as hot shower, sauna, a proper mobile toilet, power generator and etc. We did hiking for 2 days - 20 km on the first day and 25km on the second day. That was a little intense for us as we were both beginners in hiking but the views on top of the mountain were worth all the efforts! I really have to comment on the food prepared by the camp as they were so delicious that we ended up with some extra weight after our stay at the camp!

We were finally back in Almaty City and did some sightseeing before leaving to Dubai. It was very hard for us to leave Kazakhstan ....Looking at the pictures I took, they give me such good memories and I plan to return to Kazakhstan again as I believe there is still so much to discover in this country.
