Variant 1
Almaty – Turgen ravine – Batan – Druzhny Rebyata glacier – Palgov pass – Akkol lake – Issyk river – Issyk lake - Almaty
The trek starts in Turgen ravine known for its virgin nature, majestic waterfalls and relict mossy fir grove. Lots of historical artifacts can be found here like ancient Saki barrows dated to 500 B.C.E. Having reached the upper reaches of Turgen River , we have to cross over Mountain Institute glacier and Palgov pass (4270m). The riverhead of Issyk can be found on the opposite site of the pass and a great view of Issyk valley appears from this point, with its various landscapes.
Two next trekking days we will follow down Issyk ravine enjoying great natural phenomenon like huge ancient moraines that became a spontaneous dam with a very narrow and deep canyon made by the mountain river, high-altitude mountain lakes Akkol and Muzkol etc. There are some places on a way that will need us to apply technical measures to cross the river (arrange a rope and log bridges).
The trek ends at Issyk lake where there is a car waiting for trekkers to bring them back to the city.
