It is sometimes confused with another one called “Tamgaly”petroglyphs located 170km to the northwest from the city, so it looks reasonable to add “Ili river” when consider Tamgaly Tas. Being a beautiful natural spot, Tamgaly Tas is popular among Almaty citizens as a week-end camping site. |

TUZKOL LAKE AND KOMIRSHI GORGE Tuzkol is a salt lake in the southeast of Almaty region. It is located at an altitude of 1950m ASL, and is fed by underground sources. In good weather, the magnificent panorama of the mountains of the Central Tien Shan with its seven-thousanders Khan-Tengri (7010m) and Pobeda (7439m) peaks appears from the shores of the lake.

Altyn Emel National Park was established in 1996. The total area of the Park is about 520,000 ha, which makes it the biggest park in Kazakhstan. Its territory includes western ridges of Djungarsky Alatau Mountains, Aktau chalk hills, Katutau volcano, Bes Shatyr sacred area with prehistoric dolmens and a famous Singing Sand Dune.
